New study finds construction labor gap a barrier to post-disaster recovery

A year on from the Los Angeles wildfires, with wide areas burned and destroyed, rebuilding is taker longer than many had anticipated. A new study from the Home Depot Foundation and Morning Consult highlights the issue that even if funding, and the will, to rebuild is there, the labor and manpower required for rebuilding can often be the biggest impediment.

Georgia top national leader in illegal alien arrests

The Deportation Data Project at University of California-Berkeley is collecting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) data it receives from a recurring open record request. The numbers reveal that, of the top 10 U.S. states for raw numbers of illegal immigration arrests, Georgia ranks No. 4 behind Texas, Florida and California.

New legislation would limit cell phone use during school hours

A Georgia legislator has introduced legislation that would limit phone access for students in elementary and middle school grades during school hours. State Rep. Scott Hilton, R-Peachtree Corners, said The Distraction-Free Schools Act, HB 340, is aimed at creating distraction-free learning environments in Georgia’s public schools for grades K-8.

Mid-year budget passes House and heads to Senate

The $40.5 billion mid-year state budget passed the House late last week – sailing through by a 166-3 vote – and is now headed to the Senate. The AFY25 budget contains additional funding for school safety, as well as additional funds for victims of Hurricane Helene.

Atlanta snubbed for ’28 DNC Convention

The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.  Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens blasted the decision, accusing the DNC of “abandoning Atlanta, abandoning the South, and once again abandoning Black voters.”  The snub has Georgia Dems SINKING…
