Savannah airport gets new aviation safety training tool
The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) is getting an upgrade that officials say will increase safety, reduce delays and modernize air travel. U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter, R-GA, announced recently that the Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded $7.6 million to replace the current air traffic control training system at the airport. The funding is part of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2024.
Rep. Mike Collins co-sponsors official English bill
U.S. Rep. Mike Collins, a candidate for the Georgia Republican Party’s U.S. Senate nomination, yesterday signed on as the 19th cosponsor of H.R. 1772, a bill that codifies official English as the nation’s language of government operations. Other Georgia co-sponsors are Republican Reps. Brian Jack, Rich McCormick, Barry Loudermilk and Clay Fuller.

The agenda for lawmakers coming back to the Capitol for a special session in a few weeks just got busier. The special session agenda initially included two items for consideration by legislators, but will now include three more issues when they reconvene on June 17.
Democratic DAs challenge new law making some county elections nonpartisan
Four metro Atlanta district attorneys gathered in Liberty Plaza outside the State Capitol Wednesday to announce their plans to challenge a new Georgia law that makes their positions non-partisan in Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Cobb and Clayton counties. This comes after Gov. Brian Kemp signed House Bill 369 into law recently following adjournment of the 2026 session of the Georgia General Assembly.
