Speaker announces House Blue-Ribbon Study Committees

The 2026 session of the Georgia General Assembly resulted in the creation of seven House Blue-Ribbon Study Committees, as announced late last week by Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington. The committees will work throughout the off-session to gather the facts and hear from citizens, experts and stakeholders on key policy areas impacting Georgia in preparation for next year’s legislative session.

Economic development investments in Georgia break new record

Georgia experienced another year of steady growth for business recruitment and expansions in Fiscal Year 2025. According to Gov.Brian Kemp, Georgia’s Department of Economic Development’s Global Commerce team supported 423 facility expansions and new locations during the 12-month period, representing more than $26.3 billion in investment, a new record, and 23,200 new private-sector jobs over the next few years.

House passes National Defense Authorization Act

In a time when much of the funding in Congress is passed via continuing resolution (the vaunted “CR”), one of the few major items that has managed to continue finding passage is the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The NDAA is what establishes funding levels for the military and expenditures for the Department of Defense. This year’s bill comes to a tally of $892.6 billion.

Atlanta snubbed for ’28 DNC Convention

The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.  Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens blasted the decision, accusing the DNC of “abandoning Atlanta, abandoning the South, and once again abandoning Black voters.”  The snub has Georgia Dems SINKING…
