Lawmakers pass flurry of bills on Day 39

Day 39 was a busy one at the State Capitol Tuesday, as lawmakers worked well into the night to get as may bills across the line before today’s Sine Die (final day of the 40-day session). While much of the news from the Gold Dome centered on the passage of the much anticipated and much talked about Literacy bill Tuesday, it wasn’t the only bill getting the attention of lawmakers.

House committee prepares to revive sports betting debate

A Georgia House committee tasked with studying the potential legalization of gaming and evaluating economic and tax impacts to the state will hold its first meeting Monday in Oconee County. The committee was created by House Resolution 753, and will be chaired by Rep. Marcus Weidower, R-Watkinsville.

Atlanta snubbed for ’28 DNC Convention

The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.  Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens blasted the decision, accusing the DNC of “abandoning Atlanta, abandoning the South, and once again abandoning Black voters.”  The snub has Georgia Dems SINKING…
