There are two legislative days left in the 2026 session of the Georgia General Assembly. And while education advocates wait anxiously to see if the Senate is going to pass the historic Literacy Bill — a priority bill of Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington — a number of education related bills are moving through the process.

Georgia secures $20 million in opioid settlement

Georgia is expected to receive over $20 million to be used for addiction treatment, prevention, and recovery services in the fight against the opioid crisis. According to Attorney General Chris Carr the funds are part of several proposed national settlements with eight drug makers accused of contributing to the crisis.

Carter, Allen push bipartisan pharmacy reform package

Two members of Georgia’s Republican congressional delegation are fighting to break up what they call a Pharmacy Benefit Managers monopoly. U.S. Reps. Buddy Carter and Rick Allen led a group of bipartisan members of Congress late last week in introducing the PBM Reform Act, which they said protects patients and pharmacies from the harmful and anticompetitive business practices of pharmacy benefit managers (PBM).

Bipartisanship, debt deal, and correcting an injustice for Wounded Warriors

Congress recently reached a deal assuaging an economic downturn while making progress towards correcting injustices faced by America’s combat-wounded. Bipartisan efforts, particularly from Georgia, have been evident in addressing veterans’ issues this year, including the Major Richard Star Act (MRSA) introduced by Montana Senator Jon Tester and Florida Representative Gus Bilirakis.

Atlanta snubbed for ’28 DNC Convention

The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.  Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens blasted the decision, accusing the DNC of “abandoning Atlanta, abandoning the South, and once again abandoning Black voters.”  The snub has Georgia Dems SINKING…
