UGA welcomes inaugural class in School of Medicine
After a several years of preparation, the University of Georgia of School of Medicine has officially welcomed its first students. The inaugural class of 64 students were selected from a pool of more than 2,000 applications and a round of 235 interviews. Most of the students, 95 percent of them, are Georgia residents – part of a deliberate goal of strengthening the state’s physician workforce.

After Georgia lawmakers failed to act on their self-imposed deadline to overhaul the state’s election machinery, a panel of appointees to the board that regulates elections narrowly voted Wednesday to consider a rule that would require hand-marked paper ballots.

Kemp signs financial fraud bill as First Liberty founder charged
Gov. Brian Kemp signed Senate Bill 284 into law Thursday, allowing victims of financial fraud to recoup some of their lost funds. On the same day, federal prosecutors indicted former First Liberty Building & Loan manager Edwin Brant Frost IV on a wire fraud charge.
