State school superintendent primary heats up with major endorsements

The clock is ticking, and Georgia’s May 16 Primary Election is less than five weeks away. Early voting starts April 27 and runs through May 15, and many eyes are on the state’s top races – for Governor, Lt. Governor, U.S. Congressional seats and the state’s race for U.S. Senate that could eventually impact the balance of political power in Washington DC.

Sonny Perdue to retire as USG chair

University System of Georgia Board of Regents Chair Sonny Perdue announced his plans to retire Wednesday, marking the end of a storied, four-decade political career.  A former state senator, two-term governor, and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture during President Donald Trump’s first term, Perdue will continue to serve until the Board can find a successor.

Lawmakers mark anniversary of Apalachee High School shooting

Georgia lawmakers were among those across the state Thursday who paused to remember the tragic school shooting that took place a year ago at Apalachee High School in Barrow County. Among them was Senate Majority Leader Jason Anavitarte, R–Dallas, who also reaffirmed his commitment to advancing policies that protect children and give educators and families the resources they need to keep schools safe.

Korean magnet company invests $233 million in Columbus

A Korean biotechnology company that specializes in research and development plans to invest about $223 million to establish a new rare earth permanent magnet manufacturing facility in Columbus. According to Gov. Brian Kemp, the investment by JS Link America Inc., a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of JS Link, will also create more than 520 new jobs in Muscogee County.

Study: Georgia Ports economic impact jumps 7% in 2024

Now in their 80th year of operation, Georgia’s ports and inland terminals’ economic impact continues to increase. According to an economic impact study by the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, port activity in Georgia now supports 650,965 full- and part-time jobs across the state.

Atlanta snubbed for ’28 DNC Convention

The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.  Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens blasted the decision, accusing the DNC of “abandoning Atlanta, abandoning the South, and once again abandoning Black voters.”  The snub has Georgia Dems SINKING…
