Lawmakers closed out the 2026 session of the Georgia General Assembly by passing bills that address regulatory reform and life-saving measures for newborns. These bills may not have been on the watch list for some who were waiting for legislation addressing election reform and tax reform, but sponsors say they will make a difference for all Georgians.

Carr targets Savannah gun restriction ordinance
It took some time, but Attorney General Chris Carr is now backing a lawsuit filed in Chatham County Superior Court by a Second Amendment gun-rights organization challenging a Savannah ordinance prohibiting the storage of firearms inside the city limits.

A “No to foreign cops” state Constitutional amendment
I intend to introduce a House Resolution in the coming General Assembly session that would allow Georgia voters to decide on a 2024 ballot question asking if the Constitution should be amended to codify the current statute requirement that Georgia peace officers must be U.S. citizens.
