Senator applauds veterans’ legislation reaching Kemp’s desk

Building on the momentum of the 2025 legislative session, the Senate Committee on Veterans, Military, and Homeland Security, was able to pass a bill this year that extends burial eligibility in state veterans’ cemeteries to veterans from the Hmong-Laotian special guerrilla units who served with U.S. forces during the Vietnam War. House Bill 985 is now sitting on the Governor’s desk and awaiting his signature.

Senators announce new opioid crisis funding

A new round of funding is coming to Georgia from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to assist in the fight against opioids. U.S. Sens. Jon Ossoff and Rafael Warnock announced an even $900,000 will be split an even three ways between Medlink Georgia – a statewide organization with headquarters in Colbert (Madison County east of Athens), New Horizons Community Service Board – based out of Columbus, and the Hospital Authority of Jenkins County – based out of…Jenkins County (south of Augusta, the county seat is Millen).

Cobb Co. vote fails to fully fund veteran’s memorial

The Cobb Veterans Memorial Foundation (CVMF) suffered a defeat at Tuesday night’s Cobb County Commission meeting, and it is causing a countywide controversy. After years of garnering public support, fundraising and an early Commission commitment to help secure the funding needed to build a lasting memorial to honor the service and sacrifice of veterans, Commissioner JoAnn Birrell and Commission Chairman Lisa Cupid were the only ones ending up voting to fully fund the CVMF.

A new era is beginning for Georgia’s Rural Center for Innovation and Prosperity. The center has fully transitioned from the University System of Georgia to the Georgia Department of Agriculture and has hired Charles “Charlie” Fiveash as its new executive director.

State GOP urges House committee to push for hand marked paper ballots

A committee tasked with studying and evaluating Georgia’s current laws, policies and procedures utilized in Georgia elections, as well as the statewide and local elected officials and boards that oversee the administration of Georgia’s election, will hold its third meeting today. And members of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Election Procedures will go into that meeting after receiving a recommendation letter from the Georgia Republican Party.

Reform premises liability law; attack frivolous lawsuits

Atlanta snubbed for ’28 DNC Convention

The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.  Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens blasted the decision, accusing the DNC of “abandoning Atlanta, abandoning the South, and once again abandoning Black voters.”  The snub has Georgia Dems SINKING…
